Introduction

I’ve never really kept a record of books I’ve read in the past. However, to the best of my knowledge, I have compiled a list of books I’ve read that maybe some of you may find to be quite interesting and decide to read for yourselves. Please be aware that I don’t have recollection of all of the books I’ve ever read, so bear with me. This list of books is in an order than I can actually remember reading them in.

Books I’ve Read

Nervous - Zane

book I have read many books but none touched me quite like this one. Nervous is a story about a woman who suffers from multiple personality disorder. One of her personalities, Jude, takes control of her during most of the nights and sometimes when she feels offended. Jude causes many problems in her life, most of which she isn’t awake of unless someone speaks on them. She awakens without memory of the nights in which Jude takes over and often find that she’s had sex. When she decides to get help, her psychiatrist, Marcella, is more than intrigued to help her. Marcella soon discovers that this woman has MPD and is eager to help her.

Love Is Never Painless - Zane

book This book was comprised of three novellas. All of which revolved around individuals who had been hurt emotionally while in relationships. One story revolved around a man’s wife who became a drug addict after getting into a serious car incident which damaged her spine. To ease her pain, she became addicted to pills and eventually turned to smoking crack cocaine. This story touched me the most and although it was sad, it is definitely a story that I feel a lot of people could learn from.

When Souls Mate - Joylynn M. Jossel

book A great read. This book is about a woman who is locked up for years after being wrongfully accused of murdering the infant child of her husband. When it is discovered that she is innocent, she is released and embarks on a journey of lies, deceit, friendships, loss an most of all, the hope that her husband (who remarried) still has love for her. This book teaches about love, loyalty and faith. This book was a reminder to me that family and friends are important and that there will always be things that will behave as obstacles. As long as you have faith, strength and courage, you have a lot.

This Time - Margaret Johnson-Hodge

book This was the sequel to a previous book I’ve read called “True Lies”. In this book, one of the main characters, Dajah, moves on with her life after the breakup between herself and Rick. Rick is lost after this breakup and learns to cater to himself and to be alone. His kid’s mother (his wife), Gina, continues to learn responsibility and struggles to understand he drastic changes that occurred in her life, from losing her husband to losing the man she considered to be her father. All of the characters are taken on a journey after the events that occurred in the previous book.

A Guilty Affair - Maureen Smith

book This was a story about a woman named Riley who took leave from her job as a reporter to seek details on why her Fiance was killed years ago. She sought answers in her Fiance’s best friend Noah, who also happened to be in love with her for years. He’d purposely ignored her presence for many years because of his feelings for her and felt that revealing them would be betraying his best friend. When she comes back to town, they both find it difficult to resist one another. It was only a matter of time before they realized that being together was their destiny.

The Way You Make Me Feel - Francine Craft

book Very interesting book indeed. It circled around many things and touched upon many aspects of life. One of the main issues that this book focuses on is trust. A main character, Stevie, loses her memory and strives to remember anything she can about her life. The problem is that her best friend was murdered and that particular situation is the reason she loses her memory. As her memory begins to come back, she dreads remembering the one thing that could cost her her life.

True Lies - Margaret Johnson-Hodge

book Very good book. It was about a man named Rick who worked for everything he had. He took care of his responsibilities, which included his child and his wife. His wife was a younger woman who was still set in her childish ways. She cheated on him and made his life a living hell. He met a woman named Dajah who unintentionally helped him to stand up for himself in regards to his wife. He learned to be stern and his wife learned to be respectful, responsible and appreciative.

Son Of Rosemary - Ira Levin

book If anyone knows the story of Rosemary’s Baby, you know that she was impregnated by a man who was believed to be the devil. In this story, it tells of how she awakens from a coma and doesn’t remember much about anything. She is introduced to a man that everyone looks up to but later finds out that this man is her son. She discovers that he is to be assassinated and does everything in her power to prevent this from happening.

How Stella Got Her Groove Back - Terry McMillan

book I am sure, those who have seen this movie, know what this book is about. I’ve always believed that books provide better understandings and vivid descriptions than what a movie can actually give to it’s viewer. This book was about a middle-aged woman who basically has most of what she desires, until she vacations in Jamaica and meets a much younger man who brings romance into her life. Terry McMillan brings a true romantic fantasy to life.

Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry - Mildred D. Taylor

book This book is by far one of my favorite books. It is about a Black family who endures excessive amounts of prejudice and struggles to keep the land that they own. I read this book in middle school and I’ve never forgotten it. This is a very powerful book that highlights some of the racist things that people went through back in the day. It opened my eyes in more ways than one.

Let The Circle Be Unbroken - Mildred D. Taylor

book This is the sequel to Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry. It was also a very powerful book. This story focused on one of the main characters from the first book who is falsely accused of killing a white man. It also focused on sharecroppers who were basically being cheated out of their fair share of money being earned on plantations. I usually don’t favor sequels very much but this is one sequel I was glad to have read.
